# Top companies in Namibia: a who-is-who by sector

## Summary

Namibia's established economy is anchored by a handful of financial groups, state-linked utilities and ports, diversified private groups, mining operators and export-oriented fisheries and livestock. This guide maps who does what by sector. It is descriptive and does not rank or assess any company's quality, and the descriptions come from the sources listed, which we could not check against company filings.

## Who are the major business groups in Namibia?

The NSX Local Index stood at 819 points and the Overall Index, which includes dual listings, at 2,151. The main board was valued at N$2.8 trillion. Locally listed equities traded N$86 million in the quarter. We did not open a current official count of listed companies. Our investment guide explains how this market fits into investing in Namibia.

## What do the utilities and ports do?

NamPower is the national electricity utility. Its website lists a 2026 to 2030 strategic business plan, solar and substation projects and a memorandum with Namdeb. Namport describes itself as aiming to be Africa's leading maritime logistics hub, operating the Port of Walvis Bay and the Port of Lüderitz and offering cargo handling, cold storage, ship repair, and property leasing.

## How big are fisheries and agriculture?

Fisheries: the Namibia Statistics Agency reported fishery exports rose 6.5% to N$4.4 billion in the first quarter of 2026 even as landings fell 5.6% to 92,853 tonnes. Horse mackerel (53,418 tonnes) and hake (34,985 tonnes) led landings, with Spain taking 28.8% of exports and Zambia 24.5%.

Agriculture: the Livestock and Livestock Products Board reported that, in the first half of 2026, cattle marketing rose 23.9% to 126,672 head, live cattle exports rose 47.4% and beef exports rose 52.7% to about 8.34 million kg. At Meatco's 2026 annual general meeting a government representative set targets to expand beef exports and value addition, regain access to the United States, restore exports to China and expand across Africa under AfCFTA.

## What about the wider economy?

The Bank of Namibia estimated growth of 1.7% in 2025 and forecast 2.6% for 2026 and 2.9% for 2027, driven by construction, electricity and water, trade, financial services, public administration and uranium mining.

## How should builders use this map?

These institutions are customers, suppliers and partners for new ventures. Look at where each sector spends: procurement, logistics, finance and data. The best gaps are often in the services around large players, which later guides on the digital economy and Africa outlook explore. Ownership, sector focus and scale change quickly, so verify any entity directly before relying on a description.
